Lech Zürs in the Arlberg region
A village at an elevation of 1,450 meters, where people have been passing through for seven hundred years—only to end up staying.
The Walser people crossed the mountains in the first half of the 14th century and settled here. Lech was first mentioned in a document on March 11, 1453, while Zürs was mentioned as early as 1416. Then came the Arlberg Railway in 1884, the Flexen Road at the end of the 19th century—and skiing in the mid-1920s. Since then, Lech has been both: a genuine mountain village and one of the world’s most famous Alpine destinations. A member of Best of the Alps. And in 2004, it was awarded the Entente Florale Gold Medal.

Direct connections: Zurich every 2 hours (approx. 3 hours from the airport) · Munich every 2 hours (approx. 3.5 hours) · Vienna hourly (approx. 6 hours). In winter, the ICE Ski Express Arlberg also runs on weekends from Hamburg via Munich to Langen.
Langen is the closer and usually more convenient train station.
By car
The access road runs along the Flexen Pass Road (L 198), which features the historic Flexen Gallery. In the summer, Lech can also be reached via Warth—this route is usually closed in the winter.

- Winter tires are required by law from November 1 through April 15 in winter conditions. Additional equipment requirements may apply on the Arlberg Pass—check the road report before driving.
On site
The blue local buses connect Lech, Oberlech, Zug, Zürs, and Stubenbach. They are free with the Lech Card. Taxis and shuttle services are also available.
And then? We're in the town center, at Tannberg 629—within walking distance of the bus stop and the underground parking garages, for anyone who wants a hassle-free arrival.

Innsbruck and Zurich generally have the shortest transfer times. From Zurich Airport, the Arlberg Express runs as a direct shuttle to Lech and Zürs.

Oberlech is car-free from December through April. Vehicles can be parked in the underground parking garage at the Oberlech mountain railway.

Hiking
Over 350 kilometers of marked hiking trails. The most famous routes:
The Green Ring — 28.5 kilometers in three stages around Lech. Hidden along the way are 35 legends, plus three summit logs, a geocaching trail, and a bivouac for spending the night at high altitude. The stages can be shortened by taking the mountain railways: the Rüfikopfbahn, Seekopfbahn, Oberlech Mountain Railway, and Petersbodenbahn. For families, there’s the Green Puzzle Ring.
The Lechweg — a 125-kilometer long-distance hiking trail from the source of the Lech near Lech to Füssen in the Allgäu. Best time to hike: late June through early October.
The Arlberg Trail — connects five Arlberg villages.
Trail Running: 10 routes, totaling 54 kilometers.
Formarin Lake
Austria's Most Beautiful Lake of 2015. A mountain lake below the Rote Wand, covering 15.9 hectares, up to 17 meters deep, with a water temperature of around 15 °C. It is formed anew each year from meltwater.
About 15 kilometers from Lech and not accessible by private car —there is a toll road leading there, along which the blue public bus runs to Alpe Formarin. It takes about 5 hours to walk from Lech through the Zugertal, and about 3 hours round trip by mountain bike.

Ski Arlberg is a network of three ski regions: St. Anton – St. Christoph – Stuben, Lech – Oberlech – Zürs, and Warth-Schröcken. One ski pass, one connected area.
The White Ring
The most legendary ski circuit in the Alps. About 22 kilometers of runs and 5,500 meters of elevation gain around the Omeshorn, connecting Lech, Zürs, Zug, and Oberlech. Six runs, with scenic viewpoints at the Rüfikopf and the Madloch—a challenging half-day circuit that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.
Once a year in winter, it becomes *Der Weiße Ring – Das Rennen*, one of Europe’s most famous amateur ski races.
The Long Train
A 4.7-kilometer ski run with a gradient of up to 80% in the upper third —one of the steepest groomed runs in the world. Not for your first day on the slopes.
And then? Après-ski starts at 2 p.m. at our place. We have our own afternoon menu until 5 p.m., and starting at 10 p.m., there’s a DJ and live music. Located in the town center—ski boots welcome.

The Lech Card
The guest card for overnight guests in Lech, Warth, and Stuben, valid from June 18 through October 26.
Included: unlimited access to all six summer lifts, local bus and shuttle bus, admission to the forest swimming pool, children’s and family programs, guided hikes, herb walks, e-bike training sessions, Pilates, forest bathing, geological excursions, guided tours of Skyspace Lech, museum visit, mountain breakfast, use of the golf course, and the E-Trial Park.

Children 14 and under ride free when accompanied by a parent with a ticket. Seniors (born in 1956 or earlier) receive a 30% discount. People with a disability rated at 50% or higher ride free. Tickets are available at your lodging or at the Lech Tourist Office.
And then? After the hike: a sun terrace, wood-fired pizza, and a cold drink. In the summer, Thursday through Monday starting at 12 p.m. Outside, there’s table tennis, cornhole, darts, and a playground.

Culture & Cuisine
In the summer, Lech is a festival destination, and in the winter, it’s a stage. The recurring events:
Tanzcafé Arlberg Music Festival — held in the spring since 2013. Concerts in Lech, Zürs, and St. Anton, ranging from pop to singer-songwriters and jazz to DJ sets. All concerts are free.
The White Ring – The Race — in winter. The legendary ski race on the classic circuit.
Literaricum Lech — held in July since 2021. A literary festival centered on a major work each year.
Lech Classic Festival — Early August. (2026: August 2–9)
Philosophicum Lech — in September. The philosophy symposium for which Lech is internationally renowned.
Medicinicum Lech — Symposium on Health and Medicine.
Zug Village Festival — in August at the Kaufmann Organic Cattle Farm in Zug. (2026: August 23)
Skyspace Lech
A walk-in light installation by American artist James Turrell, opened in 2018. It is located at an elevation of 1,780 meters above Oberlech on the Tannegg and can be reached on foot from Oberlech or from the Schlössle. At sunrise and sunset, the section of sky visible through the ceiling changes—you sit quietly in the room and look up, and it is one of the most powerful experiences you can have in Lech.
And then? Culture in the afternoon, dining in the evening. Modern Austrian classics starting at 6 p.m., DJ and live music starting at 10 p.m. Reservations recommended.

The Towns
Lech (1,450 m) — the main town. Church, shops, restaurants, mountain railways. This is where we are.
Oberlech (1,700 m) — the sunny terrace overlooking Lech, car-free in winter, accessible by mountain railway.
Zug — the quieter hamlet further down the valley, starting point for hikes toward Formarinsee.
Zürs (1,720 m) — first mentioned in 1416, right on the Flexen Pass, a ski resort since the very beginning.
Stubenbach — between Lech and Zug.
